Oh jeeze… who let the intern on the blog?
My name is Andrea Kendrick and I’m the newest member to the Hypothetical Island team. I’m just a humble twenty-two year old School of Visual Arts (SVA) senior striving to gain my BFA in sequential storytelling.
I didn’t get into comics until I was around thirteen years old. Oddly enough it was the movies that brought me to them! I owe a lot of where I am now to Spider-Man (NEEEEEEERD). I picked up my first issue of The Ultimate Spider-Man from Marvel Superhero Island at Universal Studios after seeing the first film later that year and it’s been history ever since. From that moment on, I wanted to tell stories to the world through the magic of sequential storytelling, and I’ve stood unwavering in that stance for nine years.
Honing in on my craft, I’ve since made my first full mini-comic based from the writings of Robert Louis Stevenson’s, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, that was selected to be featured in the “Man Made Monsters” Exhibition. I still continue to tell stories through the visual media of comics, and I’ll soon have a full length story of my own to be released in April based around the mysterious murder of a magician and what great lengths his assistant will go to in order to find the meaning behind it. And I’m SUPER EXCITED ABOUT IT.
This year, I’ve expanded my knowledge of the sequential storytelling medium by studying the art of 2D animation and storyboarding. And I still continue to strive to learn every day.
It’s an honor to be working with so many inspiring artists in this little studio in Brooklyn and I’m incredibly thankful for the opportunity.
Weither you like it or not Tumblr, you’ll be hearing more from this intern in the future!
